Getting started in hazelnuts

If you're new to hazelnuts, new to farming or both, this blog is meant for you.

I've been in the hazelnut farming and processing business for ten years and have learned a few things but the learning never stops. I'm a commercial farmer and the purpose of this blog is to provide information to others like me.

One thing about the Oregon hazelnut industry is that we share- a lot. If you're looking for a friendly, supportive group, you've come to the right place.

Hazelnuts are an exciting industry, just at the beginning of expansion in the US. Across the US more and more grocery aisles have Nutella, Toffifay, European chocolates and mixed nuts that have hazelnuts.

Many have wondered if there will be a home for the newly planted hazelnuts in the Willamette Valley. The answer is a resounding "yes". The world's main producer, Turkey, has regular production and quality problems. Our customers need our quality supply in order to expand their sales.
